After sadly packing up the camp in
Birdsville and thanking Jamie’s
wonderful
volunteers who looked after us all
so well, the rally was back on the
road for the
Sunday drive to Bedourie. This was
one of our shortest driving days and
most cars
made it to the Simpson Desert Oasis
in Bedourie in good time and with no
problems on the roads.
The roads were still hot and dusty
leaving Birdsville, and became softer
as we got
closer to Bedourie, although there
didn’t seem to be any increase
in vegetation or decrease in flies as we travelled!
A packed lunch arranged from the camp
in Birdsville made sure that everyone
still had the stamina to make it!
Once arriving at Bedourie and surveying
the still very warm conditions, a pool
(billiards) competition was organised
in the air conditioned bar, which entertained
everyone for hours before the final
and dramatic play-off between a representative
from the Blues Brothers and The VB
Boys, with the VB boys narrowly coming
out
on top. A short auction was finished
off with fantastic live music being
performed by
Bedourie locals, who were generous
enough to let a couple of the rally
entrants
have a turn at the microphone as well.
Sadly we had to say good-bye to the
boys in Car 27 - Bloody Volvo Drivers,
today
and we wish them a safe journey home.
