DAY 9 : Thargomindah to Mystery Station

A very early start this morning from Thargomindah, with the rally leaving town as the sun rose. The driving to lunch was one of the challenging and enjoyable routes yet, and again we were privileged to be travelling through private property. After driving through Waverly Downs, and past Nardoo, we stopped for an early lunch in Wanaaring, having a scenic outlook from the beer garden of the pub, out over the Baroo River. A few rissole sandwiches later, the rally was back on the road, heading towards the Nocoleche Nature Reserve, where the roads become a bit wider, but were still dusty and rocky, a couple of cars having to pull up for minor mechanical problems of the way through.

Heading South still, the rally continued on past White Cliffs to Wilcannia, where a few cars made a very quick stop for fuel and a few supplies before reaching our 'Mystery Station', which was finally revealed as being Viewmont Station on the Darling River near Wilcannia. Viewmont was the perfect setting for the last night away of the rally, with our camp set up at the woolshed and shearer's quarters of the station, overlooking the river as all rally participants started to relax and wind down after a very busy and exciting nine days.

The swimming spot in the Darling was perfect for a bit of a play before we were all fed very well, again a result of some wonderful organisation by our road boss, Jamie Lawson. The mood around the campfire was bittersweet as everyone was enjoying themselves so much, and had had such a fantastic time on the rally, but was looking forward to getting home to family and friends as well.

We are looking forward to the final parade in Mildura, and presentation dinner giving us the opportunity to be able to share our experiences with those who weren't lucky enough to be on the rally with us!
