Wow – what an absolutely fantastic day! Starting in Tumut, the route traversed through Batlow, Tumburama and Jingellic to eventually end up in Albury. Special sights along the way included the power plant in Batlow, and the Hume dam. Today was much quieter for the repair crews than before. Only Owie and Richard suffered a setback as a result of a faulty wheel bearing, but it wasn’t long before they were back on the road! An absolutely stunning lunch was served in the picturesque town of Jingellic. Everybody there took advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoyed the sun while eating a hearty meal outside.
This evening was very special. It was firstly an opportunity to acknowledge all the fundraising efforts that teams put in. Congratulations to all the teams and officials for a job well done! It was also Busted and Billionaires theme night, and thanks to all the people who dressed the part! Special acknowledgment must be given to Roz Thompson for her winning outfit, complete with faux lapdog in her purse!
Thanks also to the local CF Community and supporting families who came out in force to support the event. Rob Muir, who has CF, spoke movingly about his condition and emphasised the need to live life to its fullest and to continue to raise money. During the past few days, there have been so many kind random donations that it is hard to describe and accurately capture the spirit of the event. The Kenny’s, the racers from the Jewel of the North and Dave McDonagh are just some of the many individuals that continue to purchase auction items and support CF! In fact, many people continually re-donate their auctioned items back to CF in an effort to raise more money. To all of those who donate, and there are far too many to list here, a huge thank you!!!
Last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to Frank Corby who had been growing his hair for 15 years and had both his long locks and beard shaved off for CF! Frank raised an incredible $5000 doing this!!! To increase the pot he even allowed certain unsightly patches of his hair to be left on for the remainder of the trip! Thanks so much to Frank for his generous contribution.
Between Frank’s fundraising and also the evening’s auction it was a very special night which raised significant funds to help the fight against Cystic Fibrosis. We can’t thank our rally crew and guests enough and from everybody here, we sincerely appreciate your generous contribution.
