There was lots of mud and skidding around
on our first wacko section today which was
just outside Hillston. With the roads wet
everyone got to test out their driving skills – some
mastered the wet slippery drive through the
trees - but there were a couple less skilled
who found themselves up on fences – but
we aren’t mentioning any names here!
Once we got through the morning’s
wacko section it was then time to say farewell
to Hillston, but before leaving rally cars
were pulled over by the Hillston Police who
showed their fundraising talents once again
and fined all cars $5 … the infringement ….
taking mud out of the Hillston area!
As we said goodbye to Hillston the roads
stared to dry up and in contrast to the wet
conditions of the morning great clouds of
dust billowed after the entrant cars as the
roads opened onto flat ground.
Every year Road Boss Jamie Lawson has a
daily award given to someone who brings attention
to themselves through some act of … dare
we say … stupidity! This year
it is the “Bone Head Award” and
the lucky recipient of the day gets to wear
the Bone Head Helmet all day.
Today it was awarded
to John Selth from South Australia. Details
are sketchy but seems to involve getting
locked out of his room in only his
briefs after being to the showers … and
as the song goes…..“One day!
One day! You’re going to get caught
with your pants down!”
Rob Muir of Car 808 – All Aussie Adventures
also received the “Most Spectacular
Award” – given for his skill
on the sand dunes on Day 1.
After a fun day on the road and lots of laughs
it was time to relax and swap stories around
the fire – ready for Day 3 of the 2009
Great Escape
